Trees in Public Places

Trees in Public Places are all protected under Council's by-laws. It is illegal to remove, prune, damage or destroy trees on public property and offenders can and will be prosecuted. It is a community and a Council responsibility to protect our environment. If you see someone vandalising a tree please report it to the police.

Trees on Nature Strips
The trees on nature strips are in public places and belong to the Council no matter who planted them.

Please contact Council if you wish to plant, prune or remove any trees on your nature strip. Council can assist with tree planting on naturestrips and with choosing the right tree for your environment. Please email darwin@darwin.nt.gov.au for information on how we can assist
