Parking Zones in the city centre

A recent parking study in Darwin’s city centre has revealed a need to make some changes to the parking zones in some areas to improve functionality.Turnover of available spaces in high demand areas is managed through different  time restrictions and different fee levels in the three zones (A, B and C as well as 15 minute parking bays).

What are the different costs and time restrictions in each zone?

Zone B

Zone C

15 minute areas

The aim of the zones is to keep the high demand parking spaces in the city turning over quickly (with a two hour restriction) and to make it easier to find all-day parking options further away from the city centre.

Which areas are being changed?

Throughout the city, some of the inconsistencies with zones are being addressed – for example where there is a mix of Zone B and C parking in a small area, all bays will become the same.

Some new 15 minute parking bays are being introduced, for example in the ‘bank precinct’ along Smith Street near Peel Street. Similarly, some of the current 15 minute bays will change to  Zone A.

Additional disability access parking bays are proposed throughout the city centre to ensure equity of access.
